Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaisery has ordered the police to impound all vehicles with unauthorized sirens and strobe lights and prosecute their owners and drivers.

The minister said that only the President, his Deputy, police, ambulances and fire fighting vehicles are allowed by law to have sirens and ordered traffic police officers to impound any other vehicles with them.

The Interior Cabinet Secretary made the order after several complaints from members of the public that the so called VIPs are causing public disturbances and making their lives a living hell with sirens.

Many think that Nkaisery’s order is somehow targeting Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and businessman Paul Kobia who are notorious for using sirens.

However, the recent order is likely to elicit some reaction considering that even top Government officials, among them the Chief Justice, Central Bank Governor, Speakers of the National Assembly and the Senate, Inspector General of Police, his two deputies, Chief of Defence Forces and Parliament Majority Leaders have sirens.

He also warned matatus with horns mimicking sirens that they will be arrested and prosecuted as well.
